One-Way Evangelistic Ministries,
Guyana Activity Report- June 2010.
Greetings in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
First, I want to thank you all for your faithful prayers and support.
June began with a continuation of my regular weekly calendar. I have two active Phonics reading students. One meets 3 times a week and the other twice. Two young ladies said they were interested in beginning the reading course as well. I expect to begin them this month.
Early this month, it was learned that 2 year old Udish, who had the open heart surgery is blind. His eyes are OK, but something is wrong with his brain or nerves going to the eyes. He was able to have the feeding tube removed though, so some progress is being made.
Our study of the book of Revelation brought us as far as Thyatira. The second week of the month brought me into a time of prayer requests which lasted several days. One of which was how to deal with my house, which was a mess, since I was expecting guests for two weeks. Another was a burden to see our impact on the community expand. Sunday the 13th after our Service, the ladies of the church informed me that they would be coming to clean my house! They spent two days for a total of at least 10 hours cleaning upstairs and downstairs, then they removed and washed all my curtains, and even did the bed linen too. Talk about an answer to prayer. Yeah ladies!! Then three young women from the congregation expressed the desire to be Baptized. So I arranged a series of meetings with them as a group.
A team from the USA came here to minister among us mid month, so our regular programs were suspended so that the people could attend and participate in their two weeks of outreaches here and in Tain. I was pleased to see individuals in the church volunteering to sing and give testimonies. (I had been preparing them during the preceding weeks, by requiring everyone who was Baptized to think about their personal testimony and practice various songs as a group. So each Wednesday and Sunday, someone would stand and give their personal testimony. And I am continuing this as a regular practice in our church services). During the crusades, another young lady from our congregation expressed interest in being Baptized, so I will have her join the other three ladies in our Baptism classes. Three lads who made professions of faith also attended our Sunday service and stood up before the congregation as we prayed for them.
Another thing we instituted in our worship services, is that one or more of the Sunday School kiddies would stand and praise the Lord in song, a scripture reading or memory verse. My goal is to have no couch potatoes in church.
The ladies agreed to plan and conduct the Father's Day service, and once again they did an admirable job with it. The Sunday School children did a very moving program honoring the fathers with scripture readings, song, an acrostic among other things. All these activities were planned and conducted by the Sunday School teachers and helpers. I preached on Philip the Evangelist, a real He-Man of God.
All men should consider Philip because of 3 qualities God wants in a man: I) reputation (Acts 6:3,5,7), II) commitment to Him (8:12, 26-30,32,35,38), III) tenacity (8:40; 21:8).
Another answer to prayer is that the Hindu mother of 2 yr old Udish, attended last Sunday's church service in broad daylight. She had been coming to our Wednesday evening prayer sessions after it got very dark. But this is the first time she has ever attended a regular service. Her three other children attended with her.
Steven Sadik told me he wants to do a bible study with me after school gets out. We will be using a new manuscript from John Cross (GoodSeed Intl), which I have been helping in proofreading.
That about sums up June. Our schedule gets back to normal Sunday this week. I will be preaching on Joshua 9, Every Christian should remain vigilant because of I) temptation's deceptions (3-6,9,11-13), II) sin's infectiousness (14,15), and III) sin's after-effects (7,17,18,27; Judg 3:5,6).
The church is Jesus' passion. It is the church through which He wants us to reach the world. Things are not boring here! Please, please continue to pray for us as part of Jesus' church.
God bless you all as one body in Christ Jesus,
Bro John Cook,
