Guyana Activity Report, John Cook, One-Way Evangelistic Ministries- August 2010

August ended with the completion of my preaching series on the Book of Joshua. I plan to open September, this Sunday, with a series on the Book of Ephesians, beginning with Ch 1, verses 1 and 2:

Christians should have loving concern for one another because of 3 common attributes: I) identity (1:1b), II) position (l:lc), and III) blessings (1:2).

The baptism class of 7 continued to meet each Sunday after our Service. Weare at the stage of practicing personal testimonies with one another. Four of these trusted in Christ as their savior as a result of our Baptism classes. In particular, a girl named Jeneille, has shown remarkable growth and a real thirst for God's word. I have even been able to use her help in teaching key material to another lady, who had missed one of our Baptism sessions. She did an excellent job, using the Christmas and Easter booklet (Good Seed, Inti). She is 19, and was interested in attending Law School, but now desires to attend Bible School. I am praying Jeneille will be able to attend Frontier School of The Bible, my beloved Alma Mater. She also purchased a copy of The Lamb Picture Book (GoodSeed, IntI), and a teacher's packet that I have put together for it.  Our adult Bible study, which meets Wednesday afternoons and early Sundays, has completed Revelation Ch 13. And we enjoy reading and learning together.

Concerning the adult reading classes, one man by the name of Gordon, has made very nice progress. The others have had various disruptions to their classes, but I hope they will be able to get back to their regular routines soon.

In July I had begun a Bible study based on a new manuscript, as yet unpublished, which I was given permission to use by Author John Cross (GoodSeed, Inti). That study was conducted with Steven (age 14), and we completed it mid August. Steven has really taken a keen interest in reading his Bible regularly since then. Please pray that he will continue to do so. I gave him a small leather- bound pocket Bible as a gift to encourage him.

About that time, my 29th chronological study of the Bible, using By This Name (GoodSeed, IntI), was begun with several students, including some of my Baptism candidates (including Jeneille, who also purchased a teacher's packet for By This Name). We finished it in just over 19 hours. Since then, I have begun teaching another Chronological study based on the new manuscript (GoodSeed, Inti) with two students (including Jeneille).

A real note of praise is the fact that ladies from our church have been bringing me meals daily since August 1st, at no charge. We are excited about our new Old Folks Home ministry in Stanley Town. Each month, Sister Siobahn (I think the spelling is right) contacts the inmates (13) to determine what they need. Then with the free-will offerings we have collected that month, our ladies purchase those items and take them to the Home, where they hold a very brief praise session. The women are also planning to provide meals for them from time to time.

Our monthly Hospital visitation had to be put off for a while as my car had been broken down for about 2 months. But this allowed me to focus on my Baptism candidates. Thankfully, my car is back in working order, so when I feel the Baptism classes are done,

I hope to return to our monthly Sunday afternoon Hospital visitation.
I have been in a bit of a straight the past two weeks as my computer internet and e-mail capability has ceased. I am awaiting a technician to call me from my wireless server to deal with the problem, after he gets back from his field assignment. It is difficult to keep up communications by traveling to town with my busy schedule. If there is a delay getting this to you, it is because of this computer problem.

I am very grateful to have a ministry here among these very hard working people, who are willing to give of their time, energy and resources out of love for Jesus.  Please keep us in your prayers, that we remain a loving unified church.

Mrs. Ragubir, whose 2 year-old son (now 3) had brain damage as a result of open heart surgery, is considering "becoming a Christian". Please continue to pray for their salvation. This is a very strong Hindu area, and leaving that religion is not without repercussions.

Thank you all for your precious prayers and support. I am praying for you all. In Christ Jesus.

Hi Jerry and everyone at One-Way,
I baptized 5 believers Sunday after service and we held a communion service right afterward, then fellowship and food. Please pray for these 5:
Jeneille Samantha, O'Brian Daniel, Kelly, Tafarra, and Basmatie.
I was pleased to have Steven (age 14) assist me in the Baptism.
All for now. Bro John Cook
